Rep Chris Van Hollen, chairman of the 2008 Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee described Frank Kratovil as a "terrific candidate" who "fits the political temperament of the district" and has a "good chance" of winning.

"As Kratovil explained, this is not an Eastern Shore versus Western Shore election because the winner of the election needs to represent the entire district."

Major district newspapers and bloggers have reported that Lynn Caligiuri, former chief fundraiser for Congressman Gilchrest, has joined the Kratovil team.
As reported by the Baltimore Sun: "Lynn Caligiuri, who has been raising money for Gilchrest for the past decade, will now work against state Sen. Andy Harris, who unseated the nine-term incumbent by more than 10 points. She is also the wife of Gilchrest's chief of staff, who has appeared at an event for Republicans supporting Queen Anne' County State's Attorney Frank Kratovil. Jr." [link]
"A graduate of Washington College, Caligiuri worked in all of Gilchrest's re-election campaigns since Gilchrest's upset win following the 1992 congressional redistricting. Caligiuri hopes to bring many long-time financial supporters of Gilchrest into the Kratovil campaign," stated the Sunday Star Democrat. [link]
As quoted in the Washington Post: "'Obviously many of us were disappointed in the Republican primary results, but we now have an opportunity to send someone to Washington to continue to represent our values and end the partisan attacks and divisiveness that has rendered Congress ineffective and unresponsive,' Caligiuri said in a statement. 'Frank Kratovil is the right choice.'" [link]
As portrayed by PolitickerMD: "Kratovil has courted Gilchrest voters since his primary victory; the congressman has long been known for his bipartisanship. 'I have been fortunate to get to know Frank Kratovil, and I have found him to be a thoughtful, knowledgeable leader who cares deeply about the people of this district,' Caligiuri said. 'Frank is clearly the only choice to continue the moderate, inclusive approach that we appreciated in Wayne Gilchrest's service, and it is an honor to be a part of Frank's team.'" [link]
Kratovil Learns from Watermen about Oyster Issues
Star Democrat, April 23, 2008
In two hours aboard his skipjack, the H.M. Krentz, Capt. Ed Farley tried to show Queen Anne's County State's Attorney Frank Kratovil what life's like for the oystermen he would be representing if he's elected to the 1st Congressional District seat in November. Kratovil asked Farley what he felt the collective view of the area's watermen was.
"They're afraid votes are going to be made on their livelihood and they have no control," Farley said. Sometimes watermen feel alienated from the scientific community and it's inconceivable to men scraping by that millions of dollars are spent on studies with no conclusive results, he said.

Bloggers React to Kratovil Visit to Baltimore Young Democrats
PolitickerMD, April 30
When PolitickerMD.com announced Kratovil's meeting with Baltimore County Young Democrats on May 1st, one critic reacted with the comment: "You know someone is desperate for attention when they do a press release about speaking to the Young Democrats. Guess no one else wants to hear Frank speak!" It didn't take long for Kratovil supporters to respond.
Don Engel, President of the Baltimore group stated: "Nonsense. Campaigns should always provide ample publicity for any opportunity the public has to meet the candidate. Kudos to the Kratovil campaign for publicizing opportunities to meet Frank. Besides, the Baltimore County Young Democrats are just hosting the event; it's for the larger community. Even if that weren't the case, BCYD is easily one of the biggest political organizations in the county and is a good source of volunteers for the Kratovil campaign."
Another blogger stated: "Meeting a candidate presents an excellent opportunity for citizens to learn first hand about a candidate and their positions. Kudos to Mr. Kratovil to avail himself to the public and taking the time to speak to younger voters. This is what America is all about!!"
