Innovative Supporters

Steve Kay of Severna Park works at a large retail business and shares his innovative idea for displaying a campaign sign:

trunk sign

"I bent up the prongs of a yard sign, and when the car is parked in the...lot at Annapolis Mall, I open the trunk, placing the sign holder bent ends under the trunk lid, and closing it. I have also spray rubber cemented the sign inner surfaces together so it won't be blown away or easily stolen."

Over 90% of Individual Kratovil Donors are Maryland Residents

Frank Kratovil’s campaign in Maryland’s First Congressional District ended the first quarter of 2008 with $182,058 cash on hand. The campaign raised $193,427 of which almost $180,000 was contributed after his primary victory on February 12. The campaign spent $93,640. During the reporting period, 371 individuals contributed to the Kratovil Campaign, 346 from within Maryland.

“I am gratified by the support of so many people who believe in my candidacy and campaign to send an effective leader to Washington who represents the values of the First District,” Kratovil said. “I am particularly pleased that my support crosses party lines with strong financial support from Democrats and Republicans alike.”

Frank Kratovil Helps Clean Up Indian Creek

On Saturday, April 5, Frank Kratovil joined our Anne Arundel County Coordinators, Steve Fogle and Julia Reinhart, at a clean-up event hosted by the Severn River Association. They worked at two of five sites on Indian Creek. As Julia described it: “What we were able to accomplish was a drop in a bucket of what needs to be done. We pulled old batteries, antifreeze containers, paint cans, TVs, and the tires that we could get to, but we had to climb over a mountain of broken glass in the process.”

The event was part of Project Clean Stream, organized by The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay. According to Steve: ”Frank worked at one of the 57 designated sites in unison with 1300+ other event volunteers, getting about as dirty as you could possibly imagine, to help clean up over 100,000 pounds of trash in these critical areas. So if anyone asks you what Frank Kratovil, Jr. will do for the environment or whether it is a priority for him...”

This event was one of Maryland’s largest coordinated stream cleanups ever. For more information on the event go to: Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay

Frank in the Media

Gilchrest quirks will be missed
Sunday Star Democrat, April 6, 2008 and The Capital, April 13, 2008

In an April 13 Capital article on the life and times of Congressman Wayne Gilchrest, reporter Will Skowronski wrote:

Kent County Commissioner Roy Crow, a Republican, has thrown his support behind the Democratic nominee, Queen Anne's County State's Attorney Frank Kratovil.

"Though I'm a Republican, I not only vote, but support those I feel are the best candidates," Mr. Crow said. "Frank is from the Eastern Shore, understands Eastern Shore philosophy. He's very similar to Wayne."

Gilchrest's values
Star Democrat, April 3, 2008 (Letter to the Editor by Frank W. Frohn, Stevensville)

Gilchrest will make his own decision on whom to endorse and when. But if you look at what he has stood for and how he has conducted himself, there is only one candidate who can step into the position that Gilchrest leaves behind. Only one candidate is open to solving the complex problems and challenges of the District with even-handedness and civility. Only one candidate has garnered support from both political parties due to his ability to work hard and produce results. Only one candidate is supported by the Sierra Club for his commitment to the environment. Only one candidate with the ability to represent all 1st District citizens. He is Frank Kratovil.

Gilchrest will make his own decision. but his comments and those of others indicating he might choose Kratovil are not based on animosity towards Harris, but rather a recognition that Kratovil better represents the 1st District's views and values.

Volunteer Opportunities

Marie Duffield Joins Campaign as Interim Campaign Manager

The Kratovil Campaign has tapped Marie Duffield to serve as Interim Campaign Manager as we gear up for the general election in November. Marie is an experienced grass roots field organizer from Southern Maryland who is volunteering her time and expertise.

"Voters want and deserve to meet and hear directly from the candidate and his supporters. That requires organization." stated Steve Meehan. "With Marie's professional background in marketing and media, she is a strong addition to our volunteer driven campaign."

New Campaign Office Opens

Campaign staff are busy settling into our larger office space at 415 Thompson Creek Road in Stevensville. Signs, bumper stickers, and other campaign materials will soon be available at this location.
