Recent Activities

Talbot County Candidates Forum

The Talbot County Candidates Forum, held in Easton on January 9, was a well attended event, with three Democratic candidates participating.  Frank Kratovil ’s answers to a wide range of questions were greeted warmly, particularly his response on why he is running for Congress. Here, he set the tone for the evening as he spoke of the need for change, pointed out that special interests “don’t own me,” focused on a non-partisan approach, and stressed the vital issues of the war, energy, health care, and the economy. He insisted that we are “a nation of laws” as he discussed immigration and that we need to aim for energy independence as we strive to create jobs. On a high note, Frank led the panel in naming Senator Mikulski as his role model in the U.S. Congress, which drew “rousing” applause. It was a fine night, all around.

Frank Kratovil Speaks to Union Members in Atlantic City

On January 11th, Frank Kratovil was invited to attend the Annual Leadership Conference of the Metropolitan Baltimore and Eastern Shore members of the AFL-CIO. The purpose of the conference is to establish an agenda for union activities each year. Frank had the opportunity to meet individually with representatives of several unions within the First Congressional District.  In addition, he spoke at two breakout sessions where he was very well received, according to Ernie Grecco, President of the Metropolitan Baltimore Council, AFL-CIO Unions.

Harford Dems Endorse Kratovil

On January 2nd the New Harford Democratic Club endorsed Frank Kratovil for Congress at their meeting in Aberdeen. Club President John Haggerty stated: “We have two solid candidates for the First District race, Frank Kratovil and Chris Robinson.  Frank was strongly endorsed by our club members.  He presents himself well and we are enthused by his exceptional background and service.  Another factor is that he has earned the endorsements of political leaders from throughout the State.  Harford County has citizens from sections of Maryland Districts 1, 2 and 6.  The Democratic Club therefore has a strong presence in all three Congressional races.  2008 represents a great opportunity to return the First District to the Democratic side.”

In almost every case he has been portrayed as either the top Democratic contender or the favored candidate. In the space of one week, Frank was interviewed by the Star Democrat (Easton), The Capital (Annapolis) and the Daily Times (Salisbury).

Many other newspapers and web sites have covered our campaign to one degree or another. Leading the list is the Washington Post which included Frank in four articles, the Gazette in three, The Baltimore Sun, and WJZ.com.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Night--A Full House

Sunday evening, January 13, Frank and Kimberly Kratovil hosted a party at their home to recognize the energy, hard work and long hours devoted to the campaign by our volunteers.  The house was packed as folks enjoyed the delicious homemade chili and many other dishes.  It was a time also to recommit efforts as we move towards the Primary on February 12.  Many of us signed up for activities such as phoning, putting up signs, and covering polls throughout the District.  If you could not make the party, please sign up on-line (see link below).

Brrrrrrrrrrr

They thought they were in Iowa, but they were only on Route 50! Volunteers braved the 23-degree weather and 15-mile per hour wind to wave their KRATOVIL FOR CONGRESS signs. Warm western bound commuters smiled, waved, and tooted their horns at Frank Kratovil and his very cold campaigners the morning of Friday, January 4th--our coldest day this winter!

There are many ways you can help the Kratovil for Congress campaign, including door-to-door literature drops, phoning voters, and attending/supporting events. For opportunity details go to "Ways I Can Help" below.

Thank you for your support!
