NEA and MSTA Funds Endorse Frank Kratovil in First District Primary

The National Education Association Fund for Children and Public Education has endorsed Frank Kratovil, State’s Attorney for Queen Anne’s County and candidate for Congress from Maryland’s First District.  Kratovil was recommended to the national organization by the Maryland State Teachers Association Fund for Children and Public Education.

“The NEA Fund will recommend your candidacy to the NEA members residing in your Congressional District and will urge them to play a leadership role in helping you achieve victory,” Reg Weaver, chair person of the NEA Fund, stated in a letter announcing the endorsement. “The NEA Fund and MSTA-FCPE are proud to support the election of federal candidates, like you, who measure up on the issues that most concern our members.”

The NEA has a national membership of 3.2 million people working in public education. The MSTA has 70,000 members in Maryland and is the largest union and professional association in the state.

“I am honored to receive the NEA Fund and MSTA Fund endorsement,” Frank Kratovil said. "We need to return control of our classrooms to the experts, our teachers, and stop allowing the bureaucrats in Washington to dictate how to best educate our children."

Frank Kratovil is the twice elected State’s Attorney for Queen Anne’s County. Kratovil was first elected State’s Attorney for Queen Anne’s County in 2002 by unseating a four-term incumbent. Kratovil, 39, his wife Kimberly and four sons reside in Stevensville on Kent Island. As President of the Maryland State’s Attorneys' Association, Kratovil was a successful advocate for tougher sentences for violent and sexual offenders and anti-gang legislation to assist local jurisdictions.

Kratovil is campaigning to bring change in Washington on major issues, including responsibly ending the war in Iraq; expanding affordable health care; preserving and protecting the Chesapeake Bay; developing energy independence; and passing immigration reform that promotes lawful immigration, increases border security, and improves workplace enforcement.

“We need to refocus our priorities in Washington from tax cuts and deficit spending, to bringing home our troops from a stable Iraq and finding fiscally responsible solutions to major problems facing the nation,” Kratovil said.

Frank Kratovil’s candidacy for Congress has been endorsed by Governor Martin O’Malley, Lt. Governor Anthony Brown, Attorney General Douglas Gansler, Senate President Thomas V. “Mike” Miller, Comptroller Peter Franchot, former Governors Harry Hughes and Parris Glendening, and former Attorney General Joseph Curran.
