Democrat Frank Kratovil...has picked up the endorsement of the Maryland-DC chapter of the AFL-CIO.
"For too long the hard working men and women of the First District have been without an effective voice in Congress," said Fred D. Mason, Jr., the organizations's president. "Frank Kratovil has the energy and experience to advocate for change in Washington and the ability to represent all the citizens in the District."

In recent weeks Frank Kratovil has been featured and covered in over a dozen major media outlets. In almost every case he has been portrayed as the top Democratic contender. In the space of one week, Frank was interviewed by the Star Democrat (Easton), the Capital (Annapolis) and the Daily Times (Salisbury).

Amid the Republican rancor, one Democrat marches on quietly
In a congressional race where the fight for the spotlight and right message is being waged by three Republicans, the key to success might be playing nice. At least that's the hope of the Democrats running for the 1st Congressional District. Leading them is Queen Anne's County State’s Attorney Frank Kratovil, who said taking the high road is the only way to travel. “I think I represent a more positive, hopeful campaign than a negative one where they're constantly attacking each other,” Kratovil said. “I think it bodes well for me. ... It is helpful that they are being critical of one another.”
“Instead of constantly focusing on the negative, saying I'm against this or that, I don't think that's what people want in a leader,” Kratovil said. “I think people want to know how we make the future better. I represent that change more than any of the other three.”
Even his opponents believe he is more credible than his predecessors. In an interview last week, Pipkin credited Kratovil for enticing his 11th-hour bid to the Republican primary seat. Pipkin characterized himself as the only viable Republican candidate to keep the 1st Congressional District seat, because Kratovil has a chance to win it.

Congressional Battle: A Top Democrat Weights In
Frank was also interviewed by Salisbury University’s NPR radio station WSCL. The next day the station broadcast a report titled Congressional Battle: A Top Democrat Weighs In. They stated: “Queen Anne's State's Attorney Frank Kratovil has the backing of Governor Martin O'Malley to take a shot at the seat of Congressman Wayne Gilchrest. On the Republican side, top Republican leaders are divided over the race in their primary. Public Radio Delmarva's Don Rush talked with Kratovil about the campaign and the issues.”
Many other newspapers and web sites have covered our campaign to one degree or another. Leading the list is the Washington Post which included Frank in four articles, the Gazette in three, The Baltimore Sun, and WJZ.com.

In a tight race, Gilchrest calls on Newt Gingrich
Although voters in the 1st District - which covers all of Maryland's Eastern Shore and parts of Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Cecil and Harford counties - tend to favor GOP candidates in national and statewide contests, there were slightly more registered Democrats than Republicans there before the 2006 gubernatorial election.
Many of those Democrats sided with Gilchrest in the general election, leading him to landslide victories. But this year, with what some believe is a strong Democratic field, including Queen Anne's County State's Attorney Frank Kratovil, Democrats seeking to build on recent election gains see an opening.

First District Democrats Start Debate Circuit
Talbot County Democrats are playing host to a forum Wednesday night in Easton. The five Democratic candidates are invited. The field is crowded, but only two candidates in the race have raised any money. They are Queen Anne's County state's attorney Frank Kratovil and Cambridge attorney Christopher Robinson. Kratovil has the backing of the state's top Democrats, including Governor Martin O'Malley. Democratic Senator Barbara Mikulski told a crowd of state Democrats in Annapolis Tuesday that she thinks Democrats can pick up the First District seat.

Lose Gilchrest, lose his seat, GOP is warned
The party is staking its hopes on Queen Anne’s County State’s Attorney Frank M. Kratovil Jr., the strongest of four candidates vying for the Democratic nomination. It is also banking on a GOP primary that will leave the victor broke and bruised. “To have a strong candidate who’s effectively raising money and combining that with the three most prominent Republicans in the district beating each other up, you really couldn’t ask for a better situation for Democrats,” said Queen Anne’s County Commissioner Gene M. Ransom III (D).”

In addition, both the Washington Post and Baltimore Sun are planning full interviews with Frank before the primary.
